Self-Neglect A Hidden Crisis-Raising Awareness and Changing the Narrative
The Adult Abuse Training Institute (AATI) is a forum for professionals who serve vulnerable adults. At the 2025 AATI, we will focus on understanding self-neglect, its causes, and how people who serve people who suffer from self-neglect can implement compassionate, non-coercive interventions that prioritize their dignity and autonomy. We will also examine the correlations between self-neglect and mental health; the impact of social determinants of health on people who self-neglect and innovative care and collaborative care models. At AATI, the understanding, professional development and training on supporting the work of frontline service providers who work with adults who are vulnerable and at-risk of harm are central to our mission—ensuring these professionals are equipped to respond effectively, promote safety, and drive meaningful change in the lives of those they serve.
